The queens regained their crown – Masters and world number ones
Gemma Triay and Alejandra Salazar were crowned champions of the WPT Master Final after beating Paula Josemaria and Ariana Sanchez in a match that was suspenseful until the end. The pairing not only won the Masters title, but also regained their place at the top of the rankings.
In the final of the World Padel Tour Master Final the two best female pairings of the season met again, in a match that would not only define the title of masters of masters, but also who would get the number one of the world ranking.
The match started with Ariana and Paula focused on the goal, and although their opponents broke their serve in the first game, they recovered quickly to take the lead and eventually win the first set 6/3.
But Salazar and Triay didn't give up and came out for the second set with a different attitude. Gemma Triay started to get active, and taking advantage of her power the couple managed to take the lead on the scoreboard over the number ones, who saw a very even second set slip away.
At the start of the final set, the figure of Ariana Sanchez grew. The Catalan took control of the game and the number one quickly broke her opponents' serve twice. But the match had one more surprise in store.
Triay and Salazar started the comeback, and little by little they grew in confidence. They levelled the actions and then got the definitive break in the last game to take the match 3/6 6/4 6/4.
Alejandra and Gemma won a historic title, becoming the masters of 2022 and regaining the crown as the number one of world padel.
