Number ones close a perfect year with the Masters title

Juan Lebron and Alejandro Galan became the Masters of 2022 after winning a surprisingly even match against the sensation couple of the tournament, Federico Chingotto and Martin Di Nenno, by 6/4, 6/7, 6/2.

The final match of the season pitted the world number ones against the sensation pairing of the tournament, Federico Chingotto and Martin Di Nenno, in one of the strangest matches in the history of the WPT Master Final.

Lebron and Galan had reached the final by crushing their opponents in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, while the "Drives" pair - who came together only for this tournament due to the lack of partners - gradually became the pleasant surprise of the competition, leaving the second and fourth ranked couples in the way.

The match started very tight, with long points and both pairings holding their serve. Di Nenno and Chingotto were extremely combative, forcing Galan and Lebron to always play one more ball to win the points. But towards the end of the first set, the number ones finally managed to overcome the resistance of their rivals to take the lead, 6/4.

The momentum gained in the first part was enough for Lebron and Galan to take the early break at the start of the second set. But the reaction of Chingotto and Di Nenno was not long in coming, and the pair levelled things up again.

Both pairings displayed a superlative performance, and with some truly incredible points they had the crowd in the stands of the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona in raptures.

Finally, the second set went to a tie break, where Chingotto and Di Nenno managed to prevail, taking the match to a final set where Lebrón and Galan won by 6/2.

The world number ones suffered more than expected to beat a fierce Chingotto and Di Nenno, who played an amazing match (and tournament).

In this way Alejandro Galan - who achieved his third master's title - and Juan Lebron managed to close a really brilliant season, achieving the final touch with the title of Masters of Masters.
