USA's first padel club formed — backed by NHL stars
The first padel club in the USA is going to be created and will be a part of the newly created Padel Pro League. The club will be based in Los Angeles, and the initiative is backed by EEP Capital, with several well-known names as investors.
”The announcement of our first team owner, EEP Capital, is a historic milestone for the league. The PPL is proud to be associated with an investment group like EEP Capital that symbolizes the integrity, professionalism, and commitment to Padel that our league will be seeking in all of its owners,” comments Marcos del Pilar, Commissioner of the PPL in a press release sent by the league.
Investors in EEP Capital include Swedish, U.S., and Spanish sports entrepreneurs, including several active NHL players such as Jacob Markström and Elias Lindholm (Calgary Flames) and professional Padel players on the World Padel Tour.
Starts in 2023
The League also announced that more key cities will be announced in the coming weeks. The first PPL season will kick off in the Spring of 2023 and conclude with the PPL CUP Championship. During the first season, each team will consist of two male and two female players and will follow the international scoring format.
“Padel is rapidly growing on the West Coast and across North America as people around the world embrace one of the world’s fastest-growing sports,” stated Alan Flatt, President of EEP Capital.
And continues:
”We are excited to facilitate this growth and bring a high level of play to fans locally with the purchase of the Los Angeles franchise.”
