The "drives" couple surprises the favourites in Barcelona
Martin Di Nenno and Federico Chingotto surprised everyone by knocking the number two pairing, Agustin Tapia and Sanyo Gutierrez, out of the World Padel Tour Master Final in a three-set match.
In the quarterfinals of the WPT Master Final, the number two pairing in the WPT rankings, Sanyo Gutierrez and Agustin Tapia, faced the circumstantial couple of Martin Di Nenno and Federico Chingotto.
The duo of the two Argentinian drives was formed just for the tournament, as none of their regular partners had made it into the top sixteen players of the season.
What initially looked like an easy match for Tapia and Sanyo became a nightmare. Chingotto and Di Nenno - with Chingotto standing on the left - started the match aggressively, surprising the number two, who saw the first set slip away by 3/6.
Sanyo and Tapia's reaction in the second set was convincing, levelling the score at one after sweeping their opponents off court 6/1. But when everything seemed to be on track for the favourite couple to take the match, the surprise came.
Chingotto and Di Nenno began to return all the shots of their rivals, causing a series of unforced errors that led to Tapia to disconnect from the court. At the same time, an almost perfect Chingotto on the left side won the points with intelligence, to end up taking the match by 6/3 1/6 6/1.
The defeat in the Master Final meant the end of the pairing of Tapia and Sanyo, who will no longer play together next season.
