JMD confirms: continuing for another season
Legend and former world number one Juan Martin Diaz is not giving up. He confirms to Argentinean Olé that he will continue to play next season
— Starting for sure. Then I'll see.., the player says.
On Monday is his 47th birthday, but Juan Martin Diaz is not giving up on it. For Argentinean Olé, the star sums up his season who ended with Buenos Aires Masters.
— It was a bad year: I started with Agustín Gutiérrez, then with Alex Arroyo, and now with Miguel Benítez, and with none of them did I connect at all. I must also be the problem, and that's how it is. Time passes, and I have to accept that, but I still have fun. Today I have other challenges: I will keep trying as long as I have a 0.01% chance of winning a championship or reaching the quarterfinals. That's my illusion now.
More explosive
In the interview, he also talks about the new young people coming into paddling. Juanlo Esbri and Edu Alonso, among others.
— I see them all trying to play padel like I used to play, something more explosive and not just trying to put the ball in. But I don't see a big difference between the Juan Martin of 21 and the guys of today. What I do see is a speed that I don't have today. Maybe I say, "these guys are very fast," but the reality is that they are 20 or 25 years younger than me. You can feel that a lot of times.
When asked if he will continue to play next season, the answer is:
— Starting for sure. Then I'll see...
The year has been filled with conflicts, and it isn't easy to see where the padel will end up in the future.
— Something good will come out of all this. I would love for players and organizers to be all on the same page, but it's normal that in a growing sport, there are different opinions. This is a business, and everyone is pulling for their side. I hope we all pull for the same side and that this site is for padel and not for a company or personal benefit.
