Dominant Spain does it again — defends World Cup gold
Spain was the big favorite before the championship, with the world's best women's players in the team. In the World Cup, the team did what was required and defended the World Cup gold after two straight final wins against Argentina.
Spain manages to take home the World Cup gold in Dubai without losing a single set in the entire championship.
In the final, however, Argentina's best team, Aranza Osoro, and Delfi Brea, managed to disturb Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria in the first game. But when the match ended 7-6, 6-4, little hope was left for an Argentine victory.
The second match was decided by Gemma Triay and Alejandra Salazar, who managed to beat Julieta Bidahorria and Virginia Riera by the comfortable score of 6-1, 6-2.
The World Cup gold means Spain defends the gold it won last year in Qatar. The last time Spain lost in a women's World Cup final was in 2008 when Argentina managed to win. Argentina also won the World Cup in 2012, but without Spanish participation.
With this gold, Spain equals the number of World Cup golds won by Argentina in 1992. Both countries have now won eight World Cup golds each, with Argentina dominating in the 1990s and Spain now racking up golds.
