One year later — champions and runners-up will meet again in the final
After going through the tournament without dropping a single set, Spain and Argentina will meet again in the men's final a year later.
The two favourite national teams to win the World Cup, Spain and Argentina, got the job done this afternoon. Both squads won their semi-final matches 2-0 and will meet in Saturday's final.
Spain was the first team to qualify for the final. The Spaniards defeated France in both encounters without difficulties. In the first match, Alejandro Galan and Paquito Navarro beat Tison and Maigret by 6/1 6/4; while Momo Gonzalez and Arturo Coello closed the qualification against Blanque and Inzerillo, by a convincing 6/0 and 6/3.
Argentina faced the surprise of the tournament, Portugal, who had eliminated Brazil (the clear aspirant for the bronze medal) in the quarterfinals. The "Superpibes", Di Nenno and Stupaczuk were the first to score for Argentina, sweeping the youngsters Barbosa and Ferrerira off the court by 6/1 6/1. The second encounter started with a surprise: Pascoal and Araujo broke Chingotto and Tapia's serve twice to take a 3/0 lead. But that was all the Portuguese could do, the Argentinean duo took a 9 games in a row, to win the match by 6/3 and 6/0.
Tomorrow, from 17hs (local time) Spain and Argentina will replay the final of the last World Cup, where the Spanish team won the title. Argentina has won 10 world championships so far, while Spain has won 4.
