Surprise advances to quarter-finals — knocked out Italy
Belgium is through to the quarter-finals on the men's side after surprisingly knocking out Italy and taking second place in the group behind dominant Argentina.
It was a decisive third match between Italy and Belgium in the Men's World Cup to decide who would take second place in the group and advance to the quarter-finals with Argentina.
Once there, Belgium showed that it would be counted as a padel nation. They defeated Italy, which invested heavily in recent years and brought in Miguel Sciriolli as head coach.
With two wins from Maxime Deloyer and Montoisy Laurent and Clement Geens and Jerome Peeters, the match was already decided after the first two matches. Italy won the third, and the game ended 2-1 in favor of Belgium. The exit of Italy is calculated as a major defeat for the nation that was predicted to finish second in the group after Argentina and ahead of both Belgium and the Netherlands.
Belgium will now face France in the quarter-finals.
