Champions at home: "We never took the number one ranking for lost"

ANNONS

Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay won their second consecutive title, after beating the number one pairing, Paula Josemaria and Ariana Sanchez, in the final of the Menorca Open in two sets.

As in the last Santander Open, the first and second pairings of the women's circuit faced each other in a match of maximum importance for the first place in the ranking.

Salazar and Triay started the match with an aggressive and precise game. Although Ari and Paula were looking for answers to counteract their opponents' game, they couldn't find them, and the numbers two took the first set 6-1. In the second part, the actions were even, but the definitive break came at the end of the second set in favour of Triay and Salazar, to take the match by 6-1 7-5.

"Sport is like that, it has good times and bad times. Sometimes when you lose one or two tournaments ahead of schedule it seems like it's the end of the world, but that's not true. We have in front of us a couple that makes us improve day by day and it is a match that we have been preparing a lot" said Ale Salazar after the match.

Gemma and Alejandra win their second consecutive title, thus achieving a victory of maximum relevance thinking about regaining the number one ranking, being less than a thousand points behind the number one couple, with three tournaments to play.

"We never took the number one ranking for lost. Hopefully we can define everything in Barcelona, we are going to fight to the very end to get it, we will never stop believing" said Gemma Triay after winning the title at home.

The pair will have the opportunity to move even closer in the rankings at the upcoming tournament in Malmo, Sweden, from 06-13 November.
