Three injured players in Marrero and Brea debut
First Marta Marrero, then Delfi Brea. Both players were injured in their debut together, which they lost in a decisive tiebreak after 3 hours and 5 minutes of play.
Delfi Brea recently switched partner from Tamara Icardo, who has suffered two different injuries this season, to the experienced Marta Marrero.
During their first match, the former big star Marrero injured her foot in the third set against Lucia Martinez and Esther Carnicero in Round 32 of the Menorca Open.
But it wouldn't end there.
Marrero needed medical treatment but continued to play the match. At 5-5 in the third set, the match was also stopped when Esther Carnicero had a cramp. In the next point, Delfi Brea ran into the post, and the match was suspended when she suffered shoulder pain.
Not the best start
Both Delfi Brea and Esther Carnicero were receiving medical care during the break. The match was going to a decisive tiebreak, and after three hours and five minutes, Carnicero and Lucia Martinez won.
Not a good start for the pair Marrero and Brea, who both had a tough season. In tomorrow's Round of 16, Esther Carnicero and Lucia Martinez will now face Frenchwoman Alix Collombon with Jessica Castello.
It remains to be seen how Carnicero's injury has healed by tomorrow. On the TV pictures, it looked like a cramp, while Brea (shoulder) and Marrero's (foot) injuries looked worse.
