Paquito on the position change and Tello: ”We have only decided to play in 2022”

ANNONS

When Martin Di Nenno announced he was leaving the project with Paquito Navarro after the Amsterdam Open, came the shocking news that Navarro would switch position and join forces with Juan Tello. Now he's speaking out about the switch to Argentinian Olé.
—  I've been thinking about it for a couple of years, says Paquito.

Martin Di Nenno left Paquito Navarro after Amsterdam Open. Their last tournament together was the Santander Open, where they showed total dominance and won the final with two games to spare.

For the next tournament, Menorca Open and the Swedish Open, Mike Yanguas will be next to Paquito Navarro.

— I know Mike personally, and he is a friend. I've been following him for a long time, and the level he is showing is impressive. We have been left by our partners for two tournaments, but I hope we can do it well without pressure, he says to Olé.

After the Buenos Aires Masters, Paquito will team up with Juan Tello. A decision that surprised many as both are synonymous with the same position.

— Tello is a player with an impressive physical display. Some time ago, I was evaluating the option of trying to move to the right with a player of his profile on the backhand. I think Tello has the qualities to fight for everything, and if I adapt to the forehand, we can be a very competitive couple.

”Tello was my first choice.”

Olé: Why and when did the decision to switch come?

— I've been thinking about it for a couple of years, but I didn't take the step. At the moment, it's a decision to finish in 2022, but, like everything in life, the results will determine the rest. If Tello and I continue and I stay on the right? I don't know today. Time will tell, but the idea with Tello is to start an exciting project and fight for everything.

Ole: Have you talked to any other forehand players?

— As soon as Martín (Di Nenno) told me that he would play with Coki (Nieto), Tello was my first choice. I knew he also wanted a change, and I had seen his potential for some time. So everything fit into the plan to move me to the right perfectly. He was very brave to say yes: he showed me that he also wants to take risks and play all or nothing. And as for Coello, I have little to say about him. With his age, he's winning tournaments and will be a big hit in the next couple changes.

Olé: So is the Tello & Navarro deal only for 2022? Or have you discussed something for next season?

— We have only decided on 2022, but time will define what happens. If the results are good, which is what we expect, I am confident of making an exciting project, but if I am a disaster on the right, I will be the first to go back the other way around. I would have no problem.
