Paquito after his split with Di Nenno: ”It was Martin who took the decision”

ANNONS

This Monday came the bombshell of the separation of the number three couple of the WPT circuit. After his breakup with Martin Di Nenno, Paquito Navarro spoke to the Spanish newspaper Marca, giving the reasons for the separation and offering his perspective.
— We both wanted to change for 2023, Navarro says.

After a year and a half of joint projects, this week came the news of the separation of one of the most beloved couples of the circuit, Paquito Navarro and Martin Di Nenno. The couple had come to fight earnestly for the number one ranking in 2021 and bid farewell after a very irregular season.

The pair has not been doing well lately and has only reached one final in the last twelve tournaments. While the split had been discussed, the decision to take the final step now was Di Nenno's.

— After the Amsterdam tournament, Martin told me that he thinks it is best to separate ways as soon as possible because he finds it challenging to recover feelings, level, and collaboration on the court. Although I understand and agree with him, I was a little more reluctant to change until the end of the year. I don't like to do it in the middle of a season, says Navarro to Marca.

And continues:

— We both wanted to change for 2023. It was Martin who decided to do it now. It would have been difficult for me to do it.

For Paquito, the decision to separate was never clear, although he believes that the tight schedule and the high bar of good results in 2021 took their toll on the couple.

Two tournaments with Yanguas

— At some points during the year, it came to my mind, but in my head, we could always recover from last year's good tune-up and level. I think that having the bar set so high, the hectic schedule, so much travel, and the maximum demand of the competition week after week have affected the couple.

Navarro will play his last tournament with Di Nenno in Santander. From Menorca, his new partner will be Mike Yanguas, although he will only play with him for two competitions. According to the information, the new target for the Sevillian would be nothing more and nothing less than Juan Tello.

— After Santander, I will announce who I will share the court with for the next two tournaments. Now, I want to concentrate and focus only on Santander to say goodbye to Martin as he deserves.
