Alex Corretja: "WPT has realised that it needs to improve"

ANNONS

In an interview on El Larguero, on SER, Alex Corretja - WPT's deputy president - referred to the new proposal that the tour would present to the players, with the idea of retaining them when their contract with the circuit expires.
— We will see improvements in the contract that I hope the players will appreciate, he says.

In July, former Spanish tennis player Alex Corretja joined the WPT team as deputy president. The idea of adding Corretja to the circuit's management team was to mediate between the players and the World Padel Tour in the conflict involving them.

In this context, Corretja said that World Padel Tour would present a new proposal to the players in the coming weeks, with improvements not only from the economic point of view but also in other aspects.

— What we are trying to do is to present a new project, both to the men and to the women. It's not just an economic issue, which will change a lot, but there will also be improvements in technology and assistance to the players, which I hope the players will appreciate. It is a huge effort, and I hope it will be recognized. The improvement will be amazing.

”WPT has realized that it needs to improve”

When asked about the modification of the exclusivity contract that the World Padel Tour has with the players - and what led to the legal conflict between the parties - Corretja says:

— I'm doing my best to make the World Padel Tour understand that several requests from players are made for a good reason. With the competence, WPT has realized that it has to improve, and that's spectacular. Competence always leads to improvement. We must take care to present a project that players want to be part of".

The deputy president did not rule out the possibility of sitting down to talk to Premier Padel in the future:

— Once we show this circuit is what the players deserve, I rule nothing out. I am a conciliatory person, and I believe understanding can be reached. But first, the players must realize that the circuit is making an enormous effort. I want the players to be aware that the World Padel Tour is the best circuit in the world. If padel is where it is today, it's undoubtedly because of the World Padel Tour and, of course, the players.
