The new number ones to the final: ”I prefer not to think about it”

ANNONS

The brand new number ones of the women's ranking, Paula Josemaría, and Ariana Sánchez, reach the final of the WPT Madrid Master after defeating Patty Llaguno and Virginia Riera in 2 hours and 37 minutes, by 7/5 4/6, and 6/2.

We already have the first finalist couple of the WPT Madrid Master. Ari Sanchez and Paula Josemaria booked their ticket to Sunday's match after beating the number five pairing in a match full of unforced errors.

Ariana and Paula could not find the forcefulness in the attack they had been showing in recent tournaments. The match was played at the pace of Llaguno and Riera, which led to the number ones being loaded with unforced errors and playing uncomfortably throughout the match.

However, despite losing a set after a 31-set winning streak, Sanchez and Josemaria managed to bring out their quality in the third set to take the match 7/5 4/6 6/2.

At the end of the match, Ariana Sanchez talked about the pressure that comes with being number one in the ranking: "I prefer not to think about being number one because today I went into the match nervous, and it was very difficult to play. It's been a while since I've felt like I was having a bad time on the court, and I felt like I was playing badly". She said.

Despite not playing their best game, Sanchez and Josemaria reach their fourth consecutive final, extending their winning streak to 16 matches in a row.
