Summary: A morning of surprises in Stockholm
The last sixteen of the Swedish Padel Open started with some surprises in the morning session, both in the men's and women's draw, as several favourite pairings said goodbye to the tournament earlier than expected.
The Swedish Open seems to be a tournament where being favourite doesn't feel like a guarantee. Yesterday, both the pairings of Maxi Sanchez and Lucho Capra and Tamara Icardo and Delfi Brea proved it in the first round and the trend seems to continue at the start of the last sixteen.
In the women's draw, the pairing of Aranza Osoro and Victoria Iglesias (6) were eliminated by Carla Mesa and Lorena Rufo, who after an overwhelming first set managed to close out the match in the tie break of the second to take the encounter by 6/1 7/6. Another of the women's couples that did not have a great debut was the number four of the ranking, Marta Marrero and Lucia Sainz, who lost against the always dangerous Virseda and Las Heras by 2/6 6/7.
In the men's draw, Miguel Yanguas and Coki Nieto defeated the number five seeded couple of the tournament, Alex Ruiz and Momo Gonzalez by 6/1 6/4. The Malaga players couldn't find the key to stop Coki and Mike, who proved once again that they are a very tough couple to beat in slow courts.
