Ortega and Gonzalez surprise in Portugal

ANNONS

The number 3 pairing, Bea Gonzalez and Marta Ortega, pulled off the surprise of the day after knocking out top seeds Gemma Triay and Ale Salazar in the semifinals of the WPT Portugal Open by 7-5 5-7 7-6.

In a match that went back and forth and showed a superlative level, Marta Ortega and Bea Gonzalez eliminated favourites Gemma Triay and Ale Salazar in the semifinals of the WPT Cascais Open by 7-5 5-7 7-6.

Just as they did at the Danish Padel Open - where Gonzalez and Ortega were champions - the young Spanish pairing beat the number ones. With an infallible Bea Gonzalez and a very solid Marta Ortega, the pairing managed to take the match after a 3 and a half hour battle.

In a really exciting match full of emotions, Bea and Marta managed to turn the result when everything seemed lost after being 3-5 in the final part, taking the third set to a tie break where they emerged victorious.

"Against Ale and Gemma it's impossible to take a match for granted, they are capable of turning it around at any moment. It was a great match from the four of us, and I think we knew how to fight until the end, which is something we've been working on with my partner. Marta Ortega said at the end of the match.

Ortega and Gonzalez have played three finals this season (two challenger and one open), winning every one of them. The pair will face tomorrow in the final the winner of the match between Marta Marrero and Lucia Sainz, against the world number two, Paula Josemaria and Ariana Sanchez.
