Rubio and Benitez out of the Bajo Aragon Challenger
Zalo Rubio and Miguel Benitez cannot participate in the WPT Challenger tournament in Bajo Aragon because of an injury suffered by Benitez.
After the summer break, activity returns to the WPT circuit with the Challenger Bajo Aragon tournament. However, Gonzalo Rubio and Miguel Benitez - the 15th seeded couple - will not be able to play due to an injury suffered by the Puerto de Cadiz player.
This is how his partner, Zalo Rubio, announced the news through his social networks:
"Despite our best efforts, this time we won't be able to be at the WPT Bajo Aragon Challenger. The injury of my partner Miguel Benitez will not allow us to compete in this tournament. I wish a prompt recovery for 'El Comandante' and I promise we will be back on the court soon".
Rubio and Benitez, who started playing together at the beginning of July, have already shown signs of their potential. At the WPT Malaga Open, they reached the quarter-finals, giving the tournament the surprise, eliminating the number ones, Juan Lebron and Alejandro Galan, in a very exciting match.
The pairing, who were due to make their tournament debut today at 19:00hs against a couple from the qualifying rounds, will be replaced by the Lucky Looser team. Although the extent of the injury is not yet known, it is expected that the couple will be able to play the next Open of the circuit, to be held in Cascais (Portugal) from 3 to 11 September.
