Tapia about the time outside Premier Padel and the uncertainty: ”I was terribly angry”

ANNONS

Agustin Tapia has finally made his debut in Premier Padel. His second tournament was in his home country Argentina during the P1 tournament in Mendoza. In an interview with Argentinean Olé, he talks about his time away from the new tour.
— All that time was a mixture of sadness and anger, he says.

Agustin Tapia has been the talk of the padel tour this year. After a "recommendation" from his sponsor Nox not to participate in the new world tour Premier Padel, supporters have been wondering what will happen to the 23-year-old's participation.

In an interview with Argentinean site Olé, the player now talks out about his time off the tour and that partner Sanyo Gutierrez was close to leaving him.

— All that time was a mixture of sadness and anger. The situation was not in my hands, and that was what hurt me the most, but I also understood my brand (Nox) in its position. I have nothing against them. As a player, I always marked my intention to play and even more if I live from this. But I also tell you that I took it calmly and without going crazy: I did not go out to talk or give statements, but I watched all the games, hoping that my participation could be solved, he says to Olé.

The Argentine missed the Qatar Major, Rome Major, and Paris Major. The day after registration closed for the Paris Major at Roland Garros, he received the news that he could play at Premier Padel.

Now he and Sanyo Gutierrez have played the last two tournaments in Madrid and Mendoza.

”I was terribly angry”

— I was terribly angry for missing the chance to play at Roland Garros, but at the same time, I was very happy because I knew that there would be more tournaments like this one in Mendoza. It was what I wanted as an Argentinean: to be in the first tournament in my country.

Sanyo Gutierrez has previously said that hesitated on the project and told Padel Alto that the future together would be complicated if Agustin Tapia could not participate in Premier Padel.

— There were days when everything came together between the excitement of being unable to play and Sanyo (Gutierrez) saying these things. And the truth is if he decided to change partners, it was totally understandable. In the end, maybe I would have done the same or not. I don't know. But I felt helpless that the situation was out of my hands, and it was hard for weeks or months, he says.
