Alicia Blanco and Sara Ruiz crowned in their APT circuit debut

Spaniards Sara Ruiz and Alicia Blanco - who usually play on the WPT - were crowned champions of the APT Canarias Open in their first tournament on the circuit, after beating Mireia Herrada and Laia Rodriguez 7/5 6/4 in the final.

The couple 32 of the WPT ranking, Sara Ruiz and Alicia Blanco, made an impressive debut in the APT circuit. The Spaniards won the title in their first tournament after beating in the final the number two seeds, Herrada and Rodriguez, in two sets.

Although the match was even, and could have gone to either couple, it was Ruiz and Blanco who managed to win the points at key moments to take the championship.

"It was a strange match. I think both couples were nervous because we wanted to win the title, which caused a lot of unforced errors. Anyway, we are very happy to have been able to win" said Ruiz after winning the title.

The Spaniards thus closed a great debut tournament, leaving behind the three best couples of the circuit: They beat the number one couple in their first match, the number three couple in the semifinals and the number two couple in the final, leaving no doubt that they will become one of the best couples on the tour.
