Due to a decision of the licensing company – WPT Padel Open in Italy cancelled

By decision of the licensing company NSA Group, the WPT Sardegna Open is cancelled. Instead WPT will organise a tournament in Portugal.

Bad news for Italian padel lovers. The licensing company of the Sardegna Open tournament, which was to be held in Italy from 5 to 11 September, has decided to cancel its contract with Setpoint Events S.A. The decision was unilateral on the part of NSA Group, which has communicated that the event will not be held. 

"The Italian event, which was due to take place between 5 and 11 September, is cancelled by decision of the licensing company NSA Group which, unilaterally and having previously breached its contractual commitments, has terminated the contract signed with Setpoint Events by proceeding to its resolution on 5 July 2022, making it impossible to hold the tournament in Italy in 2022.” Said WPT in its official statement.

This last-minute cancellation has meant that WPT must modify its 2022 calendar. The circuit has decided to replace the tournament with the Cascais Open, which will be held in Lisbon (Portugal) on the same dates as the Italian tournament.

The reasons for the NSA Group's decision have not yet been disclosed.
