Gutierrez and Rico spring the first surprise in Valencia – knocked out Chingotto and Tello in the first round

Agustin Gutierrez and Jose Rico pull off the first surprise at the WPT Valencia Open, after knocking out Chingotto and Tello 6-4 5-7 7-6.

In the last match of the day, the 16 ranked couple of the tournament, Jose Rico and Agustin Gutierrez, gave the surprise on the first round of the WPT Valencia Open. The Argentine/Spanish pair beat one of the top couples of the circuit, Federico Chingotto and Juan Tello, after almost 3 hours of play.

 Rico and Gutierrez showed a solid game and kept their concentration at all times, which allowed them to define the match in the tie break of the last set (7-2).The ticket to the last sixteen had a special meaning for the Valencian Josete Rico, who could celebrate the victory at home.

Rico and Gutierrez started playing together at the Marbella Master, just 5 tournaments ago, and they have been going from strength to strength. The couple had made a good impression in their last Master tournament in Valladolid, where they were eliminated in the quarter finals by Lebron and Galan.

For their part, Tello and Chingotto made their debut at number 5 in the ranking - after being displaced from the top 4 by Stupaczuk and Lima - which prevented them from starting from the round of 16. "The cat and the mouse” didn't show their best version on court, and were eliminated for the first time in the round of 32 of a tournament. This season the Argentine couple had played 12 tournaments, reaching the semi-finals seven times and the quarter finals in five occasions.
