In a great three-set-match, the two best couples of the women's circuit faced each other in the final of the Valladolid Master. In the end, it was Triay and Salazar who were crowned champions, after beating Josemaria and Sanchez 6/3 3/6 6/0.

In the final of the second master of the season, Gemma Triay and Alejandra Salazar faced Paula Josemaria and Ariana Sanchez. It was the seventh time this year that both couples faced each other in a final, in 10 tournaments played.

After the victory in the French Open, the number one seeds were looking for their second consecutive title; while Josemaria and Sanchez were trying to get their second Master of the season.

Alejandra and Gemma surprised Ariana and Paula as soon as the match started, breaking their first serve, to take a 3-0 lead. Although Ari and Paula had break point opportunities, it was Gemma and Ale who were more accurate in the key points, and the difference they made at the start of the match helped them to take the first set by 6-3.

In the second set Sanchez and Josemaria were more active, and in the eighth game came the definitive break in favour of the number two ranked couple, who took the set 6/3. But in the final set, Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay reacted, played relentlessly and swept their opponents off court 6/0 to take the match after two hours of play.

"Our team's goal was to work towards this. It will be a very long season, and there will be ups and downs in our performance for sure. In fact, it happened to me in Marbella. But you have to recover and that's what I've done, finding my best version again. We are thrilled for this title in Valladolid" said Gemma Triay after the match.

Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay won their first Masters title of the year, consolidating their lead in the Race 2022 and further widening the gap over Sanchez and Josemaria.
