Josemaria and Sanchez back — wins first Masters of the year
After a couple of bad tournaments, Paula Josemaria and Ariana Sanchez are back as winners when they won the final of the Marbella Masters against this year's surprise team Veronica Virseda and Barbara Las Heras.
The champions of last year's Masters Final in Madrid have had a tough time lately. In both the Brussels Open and the Denmark Open, the pair were eliminated in the earlier rounds.
But when the tour returned to Spain and Marbella for the first Masters of the year, the world's second-best pair showed that they were back in good form. They won the final after losing the first set to this year's big surprise pair, Veronica Virseda, and Barbara Las Heras.
The result was 4-6, 6-3, 6-3,
"First of all I want to congratulate Barbara and Veronica, they played an amazing tournament. It's very good for padel that couples outside the top eight can reach the finals. In sport sometimes you're up and sometimes you're down, but the good thing about the bad moments is that they make you appreciate the good ones even more. We started the year with four finals, playing at a great level and after my injury that changed. But today, thanks to everyone's support we can be here, winning this title." said Ariana Sanchez after the match.
This means that the team now takes its second title of the season, the first coming in the Vigo Open. Now the Vienna Open awaits, and it remains to be seen if Josemaria and Sanchez can recharge their batteries and perform beyond Spain's borders.
