Gonzalez and Ortega show their class — to the final after beating the world number ones

ANNONS

Marta Ortega and Beatriz Gonzalez stood for a surprise after eliminating world number ones Gemma Triay and Alejandra Salazar in two sets in the semi-finals of the WPT Danish Open.

The WPT Danish Open is undoubtedly the tournament of surprises. In the first semi-final match of the day, the number six-ranked pair, Bea Gonzalez and Marta Ortega, managed to beat the number one couple, Gemma Triay and Alejandra Salazar, 6-1 6-4.

Gonzalez and Ortega imposed their rhythm to the match from the start, and in the first set, they dominated the number ones from beginning to end. In the second set, the number ones reacted, and the match was even. However, the reaction was not enough to beat Marta and Bea, who, after getting the final break, took the match 6-1, 6-4.

"It's amazing how the Danish public has responded. I'm thrilled to be here, very happy for the match we played and for having beaten Gemma and Ale, who are at an incredible level. Tomorrow we will try to put the finishing touch to the tournament," said Bea Gonzalez after the match.

For the first time this season, Gemma Triay and Alejandra Salazar won't be in the final of a WPT tournament.

For their part, Gonzalez and Ortega - who were champions of the two Challengers played this season - will face the winner of the match between Osoro/Iglesias and Alayeto/Araujo tomorrow.
