ANNONS

In an unprecedented match this season, the women's final in Brussels brought together the number 1 and 3 ranked pairings for the first time this year. Although the match started better for Riera and Llaguno, the number ones managed to come from behind to win their fourth tournament of the season 4-6 6-3 6-0.

In the final of the Brussels Open 2022, the world number 3 couple, Virginia Riera and Patricia Llaguno faced number ones Gemma Triay and Alejandra Salazar.

For Virginia Riera and Patty Llaguno, it was their first final this season, having reached a final for the last time at the Lugo Open 2021.

On the other hand, for Gemma Triay and Alejandra Salazar, it was their fifth final this year, although they had faced the number two pair in the previous four.

At the start of the match, Llaguno and Riera surprised the number ones and took a 4-0 lead, and although Salazar and Triay managed to react, it wasn't enough. Patty and Virginia's difference achieved at the beginning was definitive to take the first set 6-4.

Triay and Salazar came out to play the match more aggressively in the second set and managed to break their opponents' serves twice, taking the set 6-3. In the final set, the number ones showed all their expertise and gave no chance to their rivals, winning the match 4-6 6-3 6-0, in 2H 17min.

 — Playing all over the world, and here in Belgium is a dream come true. We want to thank everyone for the love they gave us during the whole week. Patty and Virginia had a great tournament. It was a tough match. We didn't find a way to make winners in the first set, and we had to find solutions to beat them, said Alejandra Salazar after the match.

In this way, Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay continue their winning streak, achieving their fourth title of the year after reaching the five finals of the five tournaments played.
