The Alayeto twins forced to withdraw

ANNONS

The ”Atomik Twins” Mapi and Majo Sanchez Alayeto will miss the last sixteen of the Brussels Open 2022 due to an injury suffered by Majo in her right leg.

The Sanchez Alayeto sisters - the 8th seeded couple of the tournament - won't be able to play the match scheduled for today in the last sixteen of the Brussels Open.

The cause is an injury suffered by Majo Alayeto while playing the game in the round of 32 against Claudia Fernandez and Julieta Bidahorria. Although the Zaragozan players won 6-2 and 6-3 to reach the round of sixteen, the injury suffered by Majo (37) during the match will not allow her to continue in the competition.

"Unfortunately, despite winning today's match at the WPT Brussels Open, we have to announce that tomorrow we won't be able to play in the round of 16 due to Majo's right calf injury, and now we have to wait and see what the medical tests say. Thanks to everyone for the encouragement," posted the twins on their Instagram account.

In Thursday's match, for the last 16, the twins had to face the pair of Ana Nogueira and Carmen Villalba, who qualified directly to the quarter-finals because of the withdrawal. There, the Spanish/Portuguese team will await the winners of the match between Riera-Llaguno and Saiz-Martinez.
