ANNONS

Young Swedish talent Amanda Girdo has made Swedish padel history as the first person from Sweden to advance to the Main Round of a World Padel Tour Open. In the first round, she and her experienced partner Nela Brito dropped one game and tomorrow Iglesias and Osoro await.

Sweden is a country where padel is growing rapidly. Yesterday, the first player from the country made it into the Main Round of a World Padel Tour Open.

And in today's Round of 32, opponents An-Sophie Mestach and Astrid Dierckx (WC) from Belgium stood no chance. The Swedish player Amanda Girdo and the Argentinian Nela Brito won 6-1, 6-0.

— I´m super proud to be the first Swedish player to be here, but surely more players will come soon, Amanda Girdo said in the World Padel Tour TV interview after the match.

19-year-old Amanda Girdo is ranked 102 on the World Padel Tour rankings, a ranking that is set to improve significantly after this weekend. She has moved to Barcelona to pursue padel full time.

Tomorrow's Round of 16 will feature a much tougher opponent as Victoria Iglesias (ranked 13) and Aranza Osoro (14) will face off.
