The former tennis star's success — 29th on the Race of 2022
There haven't been many surprises on the Women's World Padel Tour 2022. Gemma Triay and Ale Salazar, along with Paula Josemaria and Ari Sanchez, are dominating heavily. But perhaps the greatest surprise comes from the Italian couple Roberta Vinci and Giulia Sussarella.
In 2015 she won against Serena Williams in the singles semifinals of the US Open. Roberta Vinci has won two double titles at the Australian Open, one at the French Open, and one at the US Open.
But now the star has switched sports to padel and on debut year is 29th on the Race of 2022, the ranking of this season, on the WPT rankings. After, she and her Italian partner Giulia Sussarella went to the Round of 16 in Alicante.
In their four attempts this year, the pair have gone to two main rounds, the Miami Open and the Alicante Open.
In an interview published by Padel Alto in February, the former tennis star said she started playing padel seriously six months ago.
— Before that, I played once a month. I started just for fun, to run, and to enjoy. I said step by step: It’s nice, you learn more, and it feels good. Giulia asked me to go to WPT, and I said yes, let's try. But the important thing is to enjoy, she said during the qualifications for Miami Open.
Currently, Roberta Vinci is 87th in the overall ranking on the World Padel Tour. Her partner Giulia Sussarello is in the 51st place.
