Javi Rico withdraws after the collision

ANNONS

Javi Rico and Momo Gonzalez had an unfortunate collision when they went for the same ball at the net. Javi Rico was forced to withdraw due to a wrist injury.

Only four games had been played in the match when there was a big collision on the court. After a shot from their opponents, Momo and Javi ran to intercept the ball, but their communication failed. Momo Gonzalez bumped into his partner, who fell underneath him, hurting his wrist.

The physiotherapist was immediately called to the court to take care of Rico on the bench. The broadcast images showed Javier's wrist visibly swollen, and although the medical attention did its best, the match could not continue. However, there is no doubt that due to the collision's severity, the damage could have been even worse.

After the match, Javi Rico took to his social networks to calm the fans down:

"Sad day today, due to a strong blow to my hand we couldn't finish the match against great mates and rivals like Jorge and Gonzalo, to whom I wish good luck tomorrow. A thousand thanks to the doctors and all of you who have wasted a second of your time worrying. It's much appreciated! In principle, it seems that it will only be a worry, although we will know it in the next few days", he said.

In this way, Rubio and Gutierrez advanced to the round of 16. This Thursday, in the second round of the afternoon, they will face the couple of number 4 seeded, Franco Stupaczuk and Alejandro Ruiz. This match can be seen live on WPT TV.
