After the tragic death — APT in Vienna postponed

ANNONS

The APT Circuit schedule for 2022 is not yet fully confirmed. Of the 15 events of the season (14 tournaments plus the Final Master), only seven locations are announced. One of the confirmed venues, Vienna, will be replaced by Budapest.

Today APT announced that the Grand Master tournament that was to be held in Vienna from 20th-26th June will be postponed until 2023 due to the death of the APT Padel Tour promoter Ronnie Leitgeb.

Thomas Johansson, Managing Director of the APT, said on their website:

”We are all very sad that Ronnie has left us too soon. I have known Ronnie for more than 20 years, and he was a very good friend of mine and a true gentleman who will be missed by many”.

Therefore, the event in Vienna will be replaced by an Open, which will be held in Hungary between 13th and 19th June. The city chosen to host the tournament will be Budapest, a city that organized a Future tournament last year.

"It is very satisfying for us to add Budapest to the calendar for 2022. We are very happy that many of the best padel players in the world will come to the APT Hungarian Open in June," says Johansson.

Peter Kereikes, President of the Hungarian Padel Federation, stated:

"This sport is very young in our country, but it is growing at a very fast pace. This top professional event will undoubtedly accelerate the growth of padel in Hungary, inspiring players, the public, and all key players in our sporting community. We look forward to cooperating with APT to make this event memorable".
