Ortega and Gonzalez champions in Getafe

The couple of Ortega and Gonzalez, second seeds of the tournament, were crowned champions for the first time this season, after defeating Carla Mesa and Claudia Jensen 6-4 6-1 in the final of the Getafe Challenger 2022.

The first set began evenly, with the favourite couple trying to take the initiative, attempting to be aggressive and winning the net. Both Jensen - who was playing in a final for the first time – and Mesa, maintained a good level of play and were able to keep the score levelled until the tenth game. It was there where the number two seeded, got the definitive break and won the set by 6-4.

In the second set, it was a different story. With the momentum from the first set, Bea and Martita were relentless and took the match 6-4, 6-1 in 1 hour and 19 minutes of play.

In this way, Marta Ortega and Bea Gonzalez, who are fifth in the overall WPT ranking, were crowned champions for the first time this season.

"We're very happy, because we've been getting good results during a long time and this is the prize. I want to congratulate our opponents who have done an impeccable tournament and at a very young age. Now we have to focus on preparing for the tournament in Alicante" said Marta Ortega after the match.
