The number one seeded couple withdrew from the tournament

Lucia Sainz and Marta Marrero, have withdrawn from the Getafe Challenger, due to an indisposition suffered by Lucia. The couple, who were the number one seeds, were due to face the couple of Carla Mesa and Claudia Jensen in the semifinals.

 

Lucia Sainz, could not appear today in the last round of the semifinals on Saturday, due to a case of acute gastroenteritis, which prevented her from continuing in the tournament. According to the player herself, they tried until the last minute to calm the symptoms, but the medical staff recommended her to withdraw for health reasons.

"Sad to have to withdraw from the semis. Today it wasn't just a matter of putting up with the pain, but of my body putting up with it, and we decided it was better not to play. I am very sorry for the fans, the team and the organisation. I hope this is the last time I have to retire," said Lucia.

 

Her partner, Marta Marrero said "It's a pity we couldn't play the semis today, but Lucia's gastroenteritis prevented us from doing so. I feel sorry for the public that has filled the stands to watch the matches, and for the organization, whom I want to congratulate for their work".

 

In this way, the couple of Carla Mesa and Claudia Jensen, will face on Sunday at 10:00h (Local) in the final, the couple number two pre-qualified, Marta Ortega and Beatriz Gonzalez.

"We are in the final, but not in the way we would have liked. I hope that Lucia recovers soon to get to the next tournament" said Claudia.

 

At the end of the match, for the final of the men's draw, the number one seeds Jon Sanz and Miguel Lamperti will face Martin Pineyro and Javier Martinez.
