Josemaria and Sanchez champions in vigo - The third time was the charm

Paula Josemaria and Ariana Sanchez were crowned champions of the Vigo Open 2022 after beating Gemma Triay and Alejandra Salazar 7-5 / 6-3. The final was played between the couple one and two for the third time this season demonstrating the level of both couples and their current good moment.

 The two couples that have dominated the women's padel scene since last season had already faced each other in the Miami and Reus tournaments, with both victories for Gemma and Alejandra. In the third final of the season, the champions were the number two.

Intensity was the key at the beginning of the match, with Paula and Ariana trying to be protagonists and Alejandra Salazar very solid in defence. However, despite two breaks for each side, the match was even. But the definitive break came at the end, and decided the first set in favour of couple number two, 7-5 in 1:09 hours.

The second set began in the same way as the first, with Josemaría and Sánchez very solid. On the other hand, in the number one couple, Gemma showed very uncomfortable during the match. The break came in the fourth game in favour of couple two to take a 3-1 lead. The advantage was maintained until the end, and Ariana Sanchez and Paula Josemaria won the first title of the season, taking the match 7-5 / 6-3.

"We played a spectacular match, we were able to reflect on the court all the work we do every day " said Paula.

"I congratulate Paula who was the best of the four of us, she played a spectacular match. We had already lost six finals against them, and today was our day" said Ariana after winning the first title of the season.

It is worth mentioning that after the fifth game, with the match 4-1 in favour of Paula and Ari, the medical assistance had to go in to attend to Alejandra Salazar, who suffered a small decompensation, which stopped the match for a few minutes.
