Arce and Dal Bianco Champions in the first APT
This Sunday, the couple number one in the ranking, Maxi Arce and Franco Dal Bianco, were crowned champions of the first APT Open, the Asuncion Open. They defeated Andres Britos and Pablo Barrera in the final.
On Sunday morning, the semifinals of the APT of Asuncion - which had been postponed due to the big storm on Saturday - were played. In the first match, Maxi Arce and Franco Dal Bianco advanced to the final, beating Oliveira and Melgratti by 6-7, 6-2, 3-0 due to Oliveira's physical problems.
Meanwhile, the other semi-final was the surprise of the tournament. Andres Britos and Pablo Barrera eliminated the top-seeded Federico Chiostri and Gonzalo Alfonso by 6/4 - 7/6, avoiding the clash in the final between the number one and two pairs of the ranking.
The final, which was played on Sunday afternoon, had Arce and Dal Bianco as absolute protagonists. The number one clearly dominated their opponents in the first set, winning it by 6-2. The second set began in the same way, with the young Argentine couple playing better and taking a 3-1 lead. Barrera and Britos tried to react, going 4-4, but the reaction was not enough; and Maxi Arce and Franco Dal Bianco took the set and the match, 6-2, 6-4.
In this way, Arce and Dal Bianco were crowned champions and assured to keep the number one of APT.
— We are very happy to be champions here, where everything started a year ago. Here we took our first big step in 2020, the truth is that Paraguay suits us very well, said Maxi Arce after the match.
The next tournament of the circuit will be the APT Buenos Aires Master, which will be played in Argentina from April 28th.
