Success in Reus — ready for their first semi-final

ANNONS

Veronica Virseda and Barbara Las Heras are through to their first-ever semi-final on the World Padel Tour.
Yesterday they knocked out Marta Marrero and Lucia Sainz, and in today's quarter-final, Jessica Castello and Alix Collombon scored 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Regardless of the result in the second quarter-final of the women's side, it would be a historic day for one of the pairs.

Veronica Virseda and Barbara Las Heras provided perhaps the biggest surprise of the WPT Reus Open when they knocked out Marrero/Sainz, 6-3, 6-4. Today, the pair continued to hit from behind when they faced Castello/Collombon, a team who also didn't make it to the semifinals in the past, but were a talented Challenger pair last year, four finals resulting in two titles.

– Things are starting to come out after a good preseason. I think that both me and my teammate are satisfied with the game we have played but we want to go one step further in this tournament, said Veronica Virseda to Padel Alto after the quarter-final.

While the experienced Carolina Navarro Björk and Elisabet Amatrian battled the world seeds on the center court - a three-set that Triay/Salazar emerged victoriously - Virseda/Las Heras and Castello/Collombon battled it out for a historic semi-final place. The former turned around and won a tight quarter-final 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

On Saturday, Virseda/Las Heras will be tested when world champions Gemma Triay and Alejandra Salazar await in the pair's first-ever semi-final.
