WPT to the players: ”We hope that your announcement of participation in Qatar is a mistake”
World Padel Tour has sent a letter directed to players
outside of the top 20 on the ranking who are registered in the FIP tournament. In the letter, they
indicate that the owner of WPT, Setpoint Events S.A, will execute the
corresponding legal actions in case of participation.
Players not in the top 20 on the rankings of the WPT ranking are not obliged to participate exclusively in WPT tournaments. But there is a clause in the contract between the players and WPT, which indicates that players are free to choose the tournament they want to participate in, as long as it does not coincide with a WPT event within seven days before or after.
This is why Setpoint Events would have urged the players to desist from participating in the tournament to be held in Doha between 28th March and 2nd April, as it would coincide with the WPT Challenger Getafe, to be held between 28th March and 3rd April 2022.
WPT made it clear that it does not want the players to participate in the first tournament of the FIP/QSI circuit, and if they do, they will have to respond in the form of compensation for the economic damages caused.
World Padel Tour ends
the communication by saying:
"We hope that
your announcement of participation in Qatar is a mistake, but we are obliged to warn
you that, if this is not the case, this company will exercise all the actions
it considers appropriate."
