When the new FIP tour starts in Doha, the women´s category will be missing. The tour and the newly formed players association (IPPA) have not agreed on the terms. But Gemma Triay believes it´s a matter of time.
— I think FIP is a very attractive circuit, the world number one says in the Spanish podcast Pádel Club.

In an interview with the podcast Pádel Club, the star reveals that the women may play the new FIP tour during the year.

— I think we will see some FIP tournaments with a women´s draw this year, Gemma Triay says in the interview.

The women are not included in the first competition of the FIP tour held in Doha from 28th March and 2nd April because the International Padel Federation (FIP) has not reached an agreement with the newly founded association women players IPPA where Lucia Sainz is president.

— It´s true that there is a lot of interest from both the players and the organization. I think the FIP is a very attractive circuit, and the federation is behind it, which is very important, Triay says.

And continues:

— At the moment, we are evaluating if we can reach an agreement. And well, why not.

Yesterday, on International Women's Day, the World Padel Tour came to be equalizing the prize money between men and women. This can be seen as a step for the WPT to keep the world's best women players on their tour in the conflict with the FIP and the men's association PPA, who has come out in support of the FIP tour.

”An important decision for the future of padel”

From the IPPA, however, it has been quieter.

— It´s been months of talking about the different proposals. I think we are more cautious and looking at the offers in detail. The collective is well united, the meetings work well, and we are together in this, Alejandra Salazar says.

Gemma Triay adds.

— I think it is an important decision for the future of padel. That´s why we are taking the time to decide.

Like the men's players, the top women's players have signed contracts with the World Padel Tour until the end of 2023.

— From 2024 and onwards, there will be more events, more organizers, different categories of tournaments. But above all, the players will have the freedom of choosing, Alejandra Salazar says.
