BREAKING: World Padel Tour equalizes the prize money between men and women

ANNONS
Starting with the current Reus Open, the World Padel Tour equalizes the prize money between men and women. This news is written on its website on International Women's Day.

Today, the World Padel Tour has taken a major step towards gender equality on the tour. Today came the news from the organization that they are entirely equalizing the prize money between men and women for their tournaments.

”This is the last and most transcendental determination of a battery of actions that has been seeking to close the gender gap in professional padel,” the message states on World Padel Tours website.

The prize money on the women's tournaments will increase by 250% in the Challenger category, 178% in the Open category, 180% in the Master category, and 160% in the Final Master, unprecedented growth worldwide.

Earlier in the Master category, the men had a total of 112,719 euros in prize money at stake, while the women had 42,940 euros. Meanwhile, in the Open category, the men had 98,076 against 37,573 euros.

The news is timely on International Women's Day, the 8th of March.

"This is the best news we could get," comments the legend Carolina Navarro the WPT's Instagram post of the news.

There is currently a conflict between the World Padel Tour and the newly established tour of the International Padel Federation. The newly launched tour with significantly more prize money will start without the women's category in Doha on 28 March.

”The 2022 season, just started, already pointed in this direction, by breaking all barriers in terms of the number of women's events at international level”.
