FIP cancels competition in Russia — three Promotions still planned: ”I think they all will be cancelled”
The idea was for Russia to hold a FIP Promotion competition in Murmansk near Finland in northwest Russia in April. It will now not happen, the president of the Russian Padel Federation, Christian Tarruella, tells Padel Alto.
— We talked to FIP (The International Padel Federation) yesterday. We decided to cancel the tournament in April and then see what happens, he says to Padel Alto.
A total of four competitions organized by FIP were planned to be held in Russia during the year.
— I think all of them will be canceled. The International Olympic Committee wants to cancel all competitions where Russia is involved, Christian Tarruela says.
According to Christian Tarruella, Russian players can participate in international competitions but not represent the Russian flag.
— Soon, they may be banned. In other sports, Russian players have been banned. We´ll see in the future.
Christian Tarruella is also the national team coach. Last summer, Russia played the European Championship in Marbella. The World Cup will be held at the end of the year this year. It remains to be seen whether Russian participation is welcome.
— I don't think we can go to the World Cup. It's at the end of the year, so we'll see what happens. But right now, we are not allowed, and it is also difficult to get out of Russia now with VISA, Christian says. Christian Tarruella.
Padel Alto has contacted FIP for comment but has been unsuccessful.
