The shock in Madrid – the twins knocks out the Tour queens

ANNONS

MADRID. This year's surprise (?) on the World Padel Tour probably just happened here in Madrid. Mapi and Majo Alayeto hit it out of the park, knocking out WPT queens Triay/Salazar in two sets.

Mapi Alayeto and Majo Alayeto put in a near-perfect quarter-final performance to win 6-3, 6-2 over Gemma Triay and Alejandra Salazar.

The final shot of the match was also perfect. A bounce after Gemma Triay kicked the ball out, a bounce that ended with a shot on the "right" side of the net, and the match was over. A huge cheer erupted from the 2000-plus crowd at the Madrid Arena.

The Alayeto twins have had a tough year. This is only the fourth time the tall Spaniards have reached the semi-finals. But the most important thing is that Mapi can play padel. Last summer, she announced that she had MS. A fact that, of course, makes today's thunderbolt all the more impressive.

Meanwhile, Salazar and Triay lose their only eighth match out of 59 on the World Padel Tour this year.

The pair have won no fewer than eight titles, and frustration was rife both during and after the match. Triay hit her racket hard into the net edge the second she realized it was a very unexpected exit already after 80 minutes of play at the Madrid Arena.
