Mauri Andrini on the women's side Master Final: ”It will be the biggest surprise”

ANNONS

The biggest tournament of the year on the World Padel Tour is coming up. Padel Alto's expert answers some of the most interesting questions ahead of Madrid's women's Master Final.
— I think that Marta Ortega and Bea Gonzalez haven't shown their potential yet, Mauri Andrini says.

What do you expect, and what can the spectators expect from the women´s side of the Master Final?

— It has been an exciting year for the women´s side, and it has evolved a lot in terms of speed, quality, and tactical point of view. It's a significant difference from two or three years ago. Many people nowadays enjoy watching the women´s side more than the men's. The speed of the ball is sometimes too fast on the men's side, and there are longer points in the women. The height over the sea level in Madrid makes the conditions fast enough for a great padel.

Perhaps the most significant breakthrough of the year on the women's side, Tamara Icardo, is forced to withdraw due to an injury. What do you think about that?

— That Tamara Icardo is not playing is sad. It´s always very sad with an injury, but it happens in any sport. It's a big breath for their opponents because Tamara Icardo and Delfi Brea were among the favorites winning the title. This year, they have been doing an amazing job and were well-deserved playing this tournament.

I say Alejandra Salazar / Gemma Triay and Paula Josemaria / Ariana Sanchez in the final on Sunday. What do you say? What can stop them?

— It depends on many things. It's the last tournament of the year, and they haven't been competing for a while. They didn't play in Argentina or Mexico so let's see how they adapt to the conditions. Gemma Triay and Ale Salazar are massive fighters, and it will be tough to beat them. But for me, the most important match is the quarter-final. If Gemma Triay / Ale Salazar and Paula Josemaria / Ariana Sanchez win the tournament's first match, then they get the rhythm, and it will be hard to beat both of them.

— But, be careful. We have Marta Marrero and Lucia Sainz also. They are experienced and used to playing this kind of Master Finals.

Who's going to surprise most this weekend?

— I think that Marta Ortega and Bea Gonzalez haven't shown their potential yet. I don't know if it's a matter of tactics together on the court or it doesn't work for them together. I´m not sure. But I think there is a high potential behind that pair and two players, Mauri Andrini Says.
