Collombon makes history — first French player to reach quarter-finals in an Open

ANNONS
Today Alix Collombon made history on the World Padel Tour as the first Frenchwoman to reach a quarter-final. After sensationally knocking out Marta Ortega and Bea Gonzalez in the round of 16 of the Cordoba Open.

The match turned into a real thriller. Alix Collombon, who together with Spaniard Jessica Castello has had a successful season with two Challenger wins, won the first set 7-5 over Menorca semi-finalists, Marta Ortega and Bea Gonzalez.

However, in the second set, the favorites Marta Ortega and Bea Gonzalez showed their class and won 6-1. Would the match be decided then? No.

Alix Collombon and Jessica Castello fought their way back into the match, which was decided in a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, Marta Ortega and Bea Gonzalez had two match points at 6-4. But even then, Castello/Collombon did not give up and could turn around and win 8-6 in the tiebreak.

Although two Challenger wins this season, this is the year's achievement for Alix Collombon and Jessica Castello. Collombon's victory makes her the first French player to reach a quarter-final in an Open tournament on the World Padel Tour.

In tomorrow's quarter-final, the team faces tough opposition. Ariana Sanchez and Paula Josemaria are waiting for them.
