Arturo Coello to Padel Alto: ”I don´t see myself as a star”

ANNONS
Before the season started, only the most padel interested people knew who he was. Now Arturo Coello is among the World Padel Tour's most sought-after names. Padel Alto met the star during Euro Finans Invitational in Sweden.
— I don´t see myself as a star. I am a normal person who loves padel, he says.

The 19-year-old Arturo Coello and his partner Miguel Lamperti shocked everyone by reaching the semi-finals of their first tournament together, the Madrid Open.

It wasn´t a one-off. Two weeks later, in Alicante, the pair did it again.

Padel Alto meets the new star of the World Padel Tour at the new Euro Finans Invitational in Sweden. A country where padel has grown a lot the latest years.

— It is my first time here. I am a little bit surprised. Everything works very well, and the people are very nice. I am looking forward to coming back, Arturo Coello says.

Despite the 23-year age difference between the talented youngster and his partner on the World Padel Tour, the experienced Miguel Lamperti, they get on well together, both on and off the track.

— We fit very well. Miguel has the experience and helps me a lot during competitions. He also adds energy to the team.

Arturo Coello says that they have a great relationship outside the court. After last season, Miguel Lamperti approached the talent to play together after the Arturo Coello and Ivan Ramirez project came to an end.

According to Coello, it was both an easy and difficult choice to start playing with the 42-year-old padel legend, Miguel Lamperti.

— Playing with such a legend carries a great responsibility. But, in the end, it was easy also because he has so much experience.

Wants to go to university

Arturo Coello grew up in Valladolid, two hours northwest of Madrid. Like many players, he started playing padel because his parents played.

— I started when I was 7 years old. I was also good at football and tennis, but I gave that up and went full padel when I was ten.

He lives with his parents in their hometown, one of the best Spanish cities for padel players. Both Sanyo Gutierrez on the men´s side and Paula Josemaria live here and practice at great facilities.

Despite hard training, the 17-year-old combines padel with the school. He wants to be able to study at university.

— It's hard, but if you want to, you can.

His partner, Miguel Lamperti, lives in Madrid. But a move to the capital is not on the agenda for Arturo Coello.

— I try to be in Madrid two to three times a week to train with Miguel.

”I don´t see myself as a star.”

Arturo Coello says that he did not know that the pair would be that competitive at the start of the season. In the last two tournaments, in Vigo and Santander, the pair have done worse, being knocked out in the first round of the main tournament.

— It is difficult to know when you start with a new partner, but we are training so hard, and that makes it possible to have great results. We aim to win the first match. The first match is the final.

The successful start to the season with two semi-finals has made the relatively unknown padel player a star on the World Padel Tour.

— I don´t see myself as a star. I am a normal person who loves padel, Arturo Coello says and adds that he is a rather quiet, serious, and reserved person.

”We might play with each other”

The success has also led to speculations about future partners. Many followers of the padel have paired the new star with Agustin Tapia when Miguel Lamperti comes to an end.

Arturo Coello does not close the door to future collaboration with the Argentine, who now teams up with Pablo Lima.

— Tapia is a young player like me. We might play with each other in the future. You never know. But, I am concentrating on playing this season with Miguel for now.

Have you and Miguel talked about next season?
— No, we have not talked about the future. We are very happy together now. I don´t know about my opportunities for next season.

Despite two inferior tournaments, Arturo Coello and Miguel Lamperti are aiming to play the Masters final in Madrid in December.

The season-ending event will see the top eight ranked pairs play. Arturo Coello is now ranked 24th on the World Padel Tour with an unexpectedly strong start to the season. But he's aiming higher, and the big goal this season is WPT Masters in December.

— I will do everything to be the best padel player in the future, Arturo Coello says.
