Surprises in Santander – world number one´s knocked out

With an outstanding defensive game, could Delfina Brea and Tamara Icardo win against Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay. The result was 6-4. 7-6.

Triay and Salazar had no offensive weapon to close the match against the 10-ranked pair that went to the semifinal in Vigo Open. 

— We are super happy and enjoy, said Tamara Icardo to the WPT broadcast after the match. 

The 3-ranked pair on the women´s side, Ariana Sanchez and Paula Josemaria, are also knocked out. 

The winners from Vigo Open, Virginia Riera and Patricia Llaguno, won the match in two sets, 7-5, 6-4. 

Bea Gonzalez/Lucia Sainz and Marta Marrero and Marta Ortega won in the other quarter-finals. 

It means that the former world number one´s Marta Marrero and Marta Ortega reach the semi-final for the first time this season. They face Delfina Brea and Tamara Icardo. 

The other semi-final is between Virginia Riera/Patricia Llaguno and Lucia Sainz and Bea Gonzalez.
