Sensational title for Patty and Riera in Vigo Open
With a solid defense on the slow courts, the sixth-ranked pair Virginia Riera and Patricia Llaguno sensationally won the Vigo Open in an extremely even match. It is the first title for the pair.
Many surprises have occurred in the Vigo Open on the women's side. But the world number ones, Alejandra Salazar and Gemma Triay have looked unbeatable throughout the tournament.
Until today, Virginia Riera and Patricia Llaguno lost the first set 2-6 which was the only set they lose in the tournament. With a solid defense on the slow courts in Vigo, they could come back into the game and win 6-3, 7-5 in the two final sets.
The final lasted just over two and a half hours. The 17th-ranked Argentinian, Virginia Riera, played his first-ever final and did it with that honour, to say the least.
— I am so emotional now. We did really well. My first final, and I want thank my mother, Riera said to the WPT broadcast after the final.
The last time Patricia Llaguno won a title was in Barcelona 2018 with Eli Amatriain.
